The heartwood of Taiwania (Taiwania cryptomerioides Hayata) has the excellent decay resistance and fascinating color qualities due to the accumulation of bioactive compounds. However, limited information was addressed to the heartwood formation of this species. In this study, we established the distribution of the living ray parenchyma cells and profiled the major bioactive compounds across and along the Taiwania stem. The ray parenchyma cells would die within 1–2 annual rings of the transition zone, which occurs around 8–13 annual rings counted from the cambium. The gradual loss of the starch grains accompanied with the deposition of the colored materials into the cell lumens started from the outer transition zone. The radial distribution of the extractive contents and its signature bioactive compounds across Taiwania stems gradually increased from the transition zone toward the heartwood tissues. A series of branched poly(biphenylene-co-sulfone) ion exchange membranes containing perfluorocyclobutane groups were prepared for fuel cells. Two bifunctional trifluorovinyloxy-terminated monomers (sulfonable 4,4′-bis(trifluorovinyloxy)biphenyl and insulfonable 4,4′-sulfonyl-bis(trifluorovinyloxy)biphenyl) and a trifunctional trifluorovinyloxy-terminated branching agent (1,1,1-tris(4′-trifluorovinyloxyphenyl)ethane) were synthesized and terpolymerized via thermal [2π + 2π] cyclodimerization to obtain partially fluorinated and branched polymers containing 0–5 mol% of the branching agent. They were then postsulfonated by chlorosulfonic acid at room temperature, cast as membranes, and characterized to evaluate their electrochemical properties for fuel cell applications. As the branching agent content was increased, their polydispersity values highly increased, indicating they became highly branched. It was confirmed that higher branching agent content also increased the ion exchange capacity, water uptake, and proton conductivity of the branched ion exchange membranes containing perfluorocyclobutane groups. Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) is a potent tumor promoter and highly inflammatory in nature. Here, we investigated the toxic effects of PMA on different model system. PMA (10 μg) caused chromosomal aberrations on the Allium cepa root tip and induced mitotic dysfunction. Similarly, PMA caused embryonic and larval deformities and a plummeted survivability rate on zebrafish embryo in a dose-dependent manner. Persistently, PMA treatment on immortalized human keratinocyte human keratinocyte (HaCaT) cells caused massive inflammatory rush at 4 h and a drop in cell survivability at 24 h. Concomitantly, we replicated a cutaneous inflammation similar to human psoriasis induced by PMA. Herein, we used tangeretin (TAN), as an antagonist to counteract the inflammatory response. Results from an in vivo experiment indicated that TAN (10 and 30 mg/kg) significantly inhibited PMA stimulated epidermal hyperplasia and intra-epidermal neutrophilic abscesses. In addition, its treatment effectively neutralized PMA induced elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation on in vitro and in vivo systems, promoting antioxidant response. The association of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α)-nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated b cells (NF-κB) crosstalk triggered by PMA enhanced PKCα-ERK1/2-NF-κB pathway; its activation was also significantly counteracted after TAN treatment. Conclusively, we demonstrated TAN inhibited the nuclear translocation of HIF-1α and NF-κB p65. Collectively, TAN treatment ameliorated PMA incited malignant inflammatory response by remodeling the cutaneous microenvironment. 相似文献

This study assessed the collection efficiency (CE) of two popularly used sampling devices (BioSampler and Coriolis sampler) for fungal aerosols. Phosphate‐buffered saline (PBS) supplemented with or without surfactant (Tween‐20, Tween‐80, or Triton X‐100) and antifoam agent was prepared and used as collection liquids. The agar impactor (BioStage) was simultaneously operated with liquid‐based samplers to collect fungi from seven sites located at a university building, public library, and animal farming. Fungal concentrations determined by liquid samplers were divided by those by BioStage, and the ratio values represented CE. Results indicate that the CE of BioSampler was superior to that of Coriolis (P = 0.0001) and the PBS containing surfactant collected fungi better than that without surfactant (P < 0.0001), whereas antifoam agent showed no influence (P = 0.8). Moreover, fungal concentrations determined by BioSampler with surfactant‐added PBS were statistically indifferent from those by BioStage (P > 0.05) with a Spearman correlation coefficient of 0.81‐0.83 (P < 0.01). In addition to sampler and collection liquid, sampling location was also identified as a significant CE factor (P = 0.006), implying potential influences by fungal genera in the studied fields. Overall, BioSampler with surfactant‐supplemented PBS (eg, Triton X‐100) is recommended considering the great CE and compatibility with a variety of analytical assays. 相似文献
